Time capsule into utopia
A project by 12th graders at ESBZ for [SM]ART CITIES 2021
The architectural style of Karl Marx Allee's second construction phase emerged from a social utopia of the modern socialist system of the GDR. The project Time Capsule into Utopia seeks to find the role and possibilities of utopias today. Using future visions of their dream cities, the students try to understand social processes and think of new interfaces.
They design and build installations for the Karl-Marx-Allee neighbourhood which aim to activate the sensory perception of the users and, with different views and insights, superimpose the students' urban visions on the first GDR generation's vision of the future.
